On 28 of January 2011, Liverpool signed Suárez from Ajax for 22.8 million pounds. Suárez was suspended at the time, being involved in a biting scandal with Otman Bakkal. It was Liverpool most expensive arrival at the time. Suárez was supposed to replace Fernando Torres Who Chelsea bought from Liverpool for a reported fee of 50 million.
Suárez was an instant impact for Liverpool, he scored on his debut against Stoke City. He was one of Liverpool best players in the second-half of the season and helped them climb to sixth place. In his first full season at Liverpool in the 2011-12 season, Luiz did not quite manage to regain the scoring form from Ajax. He scored 11 league goals as Liverpool finished eight. During this season, Suárez was accused of racially abusing Patrice Evra by the FA (Football Association). He was found guilty of using abusive or insulting words which FA did not tolerate. He was handed an eight-match ban and was fined for 40,000 pounds. Suárez pledged his innocence and in an interview with Liverpool.com, he stated that he did not mean to offend or insult Patrice Evra. He said: “Never, I repeat, never, have I had any racial problem with a team mate or individual who was of a different race or colour to mine. Never. I am very upset by all the things which have been said during the last few weeks about me, all of them being very far from the truth. But above all, I'm very upset at feeling so powerless whilst being accused of something which I did not, nor would not, ever do.” In next meting against Manchester, Suárez refused to shake hands with Evra.
At the beginning of the 2012-13 season, Suárez signed a new long-term contract. Suarez told Liverpoolfc.com: "To sign a new contract with Liverpool is unbelievable for me because I am so happy here at both the club and also in the city.” Suarez had an incredible season. On yhe 2. march, Suarez became only the third Liverpool player to score over 20 premier league goals in one season. He finished second for the PFA player of the year behind Gareth Bale. He scored 30 goals in all competitions, 23 in the Premier League making him second top goal scorer of the season. at the end of March, Suárez won the Liverpool player of the season award. Although Suarez had a great season, it was full of controversy. In a match against Chelsea on 21 of April 2013, Suarez bit Branislav Ivanovic. It was the second time Suárez has bitten someone. Suárez was fined by his club and handed a ten-match ban. In the end of May he stated in an interview with The Telegraph he wanted to leave Liverpool because of excessive media attention. “My reason for leaving is my family and my image, I don't feel comfortable here anymore. It is a difficult moment for me, my coach and my colleagues know that they [the British media] didn't treat me well. Firstly, being persecuted by the paparazzi all the time. I couldn't go to my garden or the supermarket. I couldn't do anything.”. John W. Henry (Liverpool owner) stated that they would not sell Suarez.
Suárez seemed to change his mind in the following season, with reports saying that he would likely sign a new deal at the Merseyside club. Suarez had an extraordinary season. he won the PFA player of the year and became the first ever non-European to win the award. He finished the Season with 31 Premier League goals in 33 matches. He shared the European golden shoe with Cristiano Ronaldo. On July 2014 Suárez joined Barcelona for a reported fee of 65 million.
