Jóhann Berg Guðmundsson

Jóhann Berg is an Icelandic football player who plays for Burnley in the Barclays Premier League. He has played 63 games with the Icelandic national team and scored 7 goals in them. He plays as a winger and is a crucial player for his club, this season. He has been involved with most of the goals Burnley has scored this season.


Jóhann Berg Guðmundsson is a key player for the Icelandic national team, making his debut for both the Under 21 national team and the first team of Iceland at 17 years of age, he has only been evolving as a player.

When Jóhann Berg was younger he played for the youth teams of Chelsea and Fulham, until he moved back home to play with Breiðablik in 2008. That season in 2008 Jóhann earned himself a spot in the first team as a winger and as a striker. He played 22 games and scored 6 goals for Breiðablik. In January 2009, Jóhann Berg moved to AZ Alkmaar from Breiðablik on a 5 year contract. Jóhann had his debut for AZ Alkmaar in 2010 and scored 4 goals that season in 34 games. In his time at AZ Alkmaar he played 119 games and scored 9 goals at that time. In 2014 Jóhann Berg left AZ Alkmaar and joined the championship side Charlton Athletic on a two year deal. Ahead of the season, Jóhann was given the number 7 on his jersey. Jóhann played 81 games for Charlton Athletic and in them he scored 16 goals.

In july, 2016, right after the UEFA European Championship. After a good performance in that tournament, playing 5 games and scoring 1 goal, Jóhann Berg joined Burnley who had recently been promoted to the Barclays Premier League. He was given the number 25 shirt and he played 20 games that season. In those games he scored 1 goal and assisted 2. This season, 17/18, Jóhann Berg was given the number 17 shirt. He has put on a quite a show by assisting 5 goals and scoring another 2, that means he has been involved in more goals than any other Burnley player this season (7). Jóhann Berg will be one of a few key players for the Icelandic national team in the upcoming World Cup.
