Jerrel “Jimmy” Floyd Hasselbaink

Jerrel Floyd Hasselbaink, better known as “Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink” born March 27th 1972, born in Paramaribo, Suriname, but played for the Netherlands. He was a centre forward who started his career with Telstar in 1990 and played with them for 1 season making 4 appearances scoring no goals, he then moved to AZ there he got more time on the pitch making 46 appearances in 2 seasons, the trouble was getting the ball in the net, scoring only 1 goal. He played with Campomaiorense from 95-96 playing 31 games and scoring 12 goals, next season he made a move to Boavista where he scored 20 goals in 29 games in 1 season.


LEEDS UNITED, ATLETICO MADRID AND CHELSEA

Jimmy Hasselbaink was sold two the English football team Leeds for a £2 million dollar fee in the summer of 97 by manager George Graham, jimmy scored on his debut vs arsenal on Elland road, the game ended in a 1-1 draw, he wound up with 26 goals in all competitions, the following season he scored 18 goals in 36 appearances enough to help him win the premier league golden boot. The next season he and his agent had a disagreement about his next contact with the club seeing as how they did not offer him enough money, they made a deal with Atletico Madrid for £10 million even though he had two years left on his existing contract with Leeds.

Hasselbaink did not score until his 4th game were he secured a point against Real Zaragoza, he then continued scoring important goals for the team, he scored 2 goals against Real Madrid when Atletico beat Real Madrid for the first time in 9 years, he also scored against Barcelona in a 2-1 defeat, he scored 24 goals in 34 games in 1 season, he left the club because of a relegation clause. He returned to the premier league, when signed by Chelsea for club record fee of £15 million, he signed a 4 year contract and he scored on his debut when they won the 2000 FA charity shield and he scored scored 23 goals in 35 league appearances and he finished as the top scorer in the premier league.

In his next season he made a good striker partnership with Eiður Guðjohnsen, Jimmy scored 29 Goals in all competitions whilst Eiður had 23 in that season, he lost the golden boot to Thierry Henry by 1 goal that year.

In summer 2002 he suffered a hamstring injury, and the following season the club mainly focused on playing Gianfranco Zola, although focusing on Zola, jimmy managed to score 15 goals in 44 games, he was supposed to make a move to Barcelona for £8 million but the transfer didn’t go through. In his last season with Chelsea he scored 18 goals in all competitions.


INTERNATIONAL CAREER

He was picked in the national team from 98-02 making 23 appearances and putting the ball in the net 9 times.


LATER YEARS

He played for Middlesbrough from 04-06 scoring 23 goals in 58 games, from 06-07 he played for Charlton Athletic where he only scored 2 goals in 25 appearances, his last team before retirement was Cardiff city there he played 36 games and scored 7 goals. Now he serves as a manager for Northampton town in the third tier of English football.
