Columbia began their quest for the world cup title in 2014 against Greece, They beat them 3-0 and James scored his first goal of a magical world cup run in the 93´minute. Next up where Ivory Coast. At this point Columbia where through the group it was just a matter of finishing first or second. There final group stage game was against Japan it was tied 1-1. But after a brace from Jackson Martinez and a late goal and sealed the game off 4-1. James and his squad where off to the round off sixteen. In that round it was a South American classic, Columbia facing off against Uruguay. James bagged himself a brace, one in the first half and finished the game off in the second half. At this point James was a transfer target for most elite sides in Europe.

James gave Columbia a consolation goal late in the game but it was not enough. Columbia´s great world cup run sadly ended against Brazil in the quarterfinals.

Despite a disappointing loss James ended up as the tournaments top goal scorer. After the world cup He got his dream move to Real Madrid for 80 million euros. You could say it was an eventful summer for James Rodriguez.
