Chelsea´s Champions League XI: Where are they now?

PHOTO: https://redwhiteandblues.wordpress.com

The Champions League Final between Bayern Munich and Chelsea in 2012 was truly one of the best finals the Champions League had seen at the time. The final was held at Bayern´s home ground, Allianz Arena. The game was exciting and on the 83rd minute the highly skilled midfielder, Thomas Muller took the lead for Bayern. However, only five minutes later, the Chelsea legend, Didier Drogba equalized for the Blues, sending the game to extra time and later a penalty shoot-out, which ended 3-4 for Chelsea after Petr Cech saved two crucial penalties and Drogba finishing it with the last penalty.

Petr Cech

Petr Cech has truly been one of the best goalkeepers in the world for the past fifteen years. He is now playing for Chelsea rivals, Arsenal. He hasn´t really been as good as he´s capable of since joining Arsenal in 2015, saving only one penalty since his arrival to the Gunners.

José Bosingwa

The Portuguese right back played the full 120 minutes in the Final. He played for Chelsea for five years, putting in decent and consistent performances with the Blues. In the summer after the final he decided to move away from Chelsea and to Queens Park Rangers where he only lasted for one season and transferred to Trabzonspor in Turkey where he played until he retired in 2016.

David Luiz

David Luiz was in the starting line up in the final and had a decent outing in his Champions League Final debut. It was his first season for Chelsea and you could say that it couldn´t have ended better for the Brazilian. He played for two seasons after the Final before joining Paris Saint-Germain in France where he won the league on a number of occasions. In the summer of 2016 he got transferred back to his former club Chelsea. He´s still in London and has been putting in decent performances since his arrival back.

Gary Cahill

Cahill is the only one in the starting eleven who is still at Chelsea. He is the captain of the London club and has wore the band in a several National games for his country, England. Cahill has been mostly consistent since his arrival in the January transfer window in 2012, but on a few occasions he makes a big mistake which could cost a game. All to all, he´s an amazing center back and his arrival is definitely one of the best thing that the former Chelsea boss, André Villas-Boas did for the club.

Ashley Cole

Cole was once one of the best full backs in the world but has faded away in the last few years. After playing for Chelsea for nearly a decade, he decided to move to Roma. He played two seasons for the Italian side but only managed to get 16 appearances to his name. He is now the captain of the Los Angeles Lakers in the MLS and has been playing for them since 2016.

Frank Lampard

He was the captain for this Final in 2012. Lampard was one of the best in his possession for a decade and has won many awards. Frank Lampard left Chelsea very surprisingly in 2015 and moved to the United States and signed for New York City. He got loaned straight away to their sister club, Manchester City. Those news angered any fans and the fact that Lampard scored against Chelsea after coming off the bench, just made them more angry. Lampard played nearly a whole season for Manchester City before going back to New York where he only played one season before he decided to retire right before the start of the 2017 season.

John Obi Mikel

Mikel played for Chelsea for eleven seasons, being one of the most loved players for Chelsea. He was consistent and it didn´t go much about him. Mikel decided to move to China in the 2016 summer window after Chelsea had made the decision to not renew his contract with the club. He moved to a club named Tienjin TEDA and has been putting in a few good performances since joining the side.

Ryan Bertrand

Bertrand, who is a left back, played as a left winger in the final and also in a few matches of the season. He was one of the players who got loaned out very often. Bertrand was at Chelsea from 2006-2015 and got loaned out nine times. In the summer of 2015 he decided to leave the Blues and signed for Southampton where he is still playing and is more often than not one of the first names on the team sheet.

Salomon Kalou

Salomon Kalou played for Chelsea for six season winning the Premier League once. After playing for Chelsea he moved away to the French club Lille. He played for Lille for only two seasons before joining Hertha Berlin in 2014. He is still playing in Germany with some people happy but others unhappy.

Juan Mata

Mata was one of the best players for Chelsea in that season, putting in a number of extraordinary performances. He was voted as the Chelsea Player of the Year in back-to-back seasons and won the Champions League, Europa League and the FA cup for the club. He was then forced out of the club by Jose Mourinho who put him out in the cold and didn´t play him in the first half of the 2013-14 season. Mata decided to move and signed for a Chelsea rival, Manchester United where he has been solid. He is still playing for the Red Devils in 2018.

Didier Drogba

Didier Drogba is probably one of the most fan favorite player in Chelsea´s history. He was arguably the best player at Chelsea since joining them in 2004 and when he left in the summer of 2012 after winning the Champions League. His last touch for Chelsea was the deciding penalty which won them the title. He joined Shanghai Shenhua in China but only managed to make eleven appearances for the club. H later joined Galatasaray, and after only one season he decided to go back to England to his former team, Chelsea. He played for nearly a whole season for the Blues but most of the games he played was when he came of the bench. he then moved to Montreal Impact in the MLS where he played for only season before becoming a free agent. He was a free agent for four months before joining Phoenix Rising and becoming a part owner of the club. Didier Drogba is the first player in football history to become a player-owner.
