The 31-year-old French professional footballer that plays as a forward just signed to Chelsea yesterday for an 18-month contract (31.Jan). He has played for Arsenal for the past 5 years and was a key player for them. After some confusing statements about the transfer and news saying that it wouldn´t happen, it finally did. The Frenchman was bought for £18 million from Arsenal. Speaking to Chelsea’s official website, Giroud said: "Chelsea is one of the biggest teams in the Premier League. They have won maybe the most trophies in the last six or seven years. It's a massive club and I am proud to sign for Chelsea, and I'm looking forward to playing."
This is a great time for Giroud to play for Chelsea because they just loaned their great forward Michy Batshuayi to Dortmund. Giroud leaves the Emirates Stadium after scoring 105 goals in 253 appearances for the Gunners.
Giroud is expected to play understudy to Morata at Chelsea, and in that role he can help the young Spaniard, according to Zola. ‘Giroud is certainly a player who can make an impact,’ said the Italian. ‘For example, yesterday [in the 3-0 defeat to Bournemouth] he would have made a big difference because of the type of game Chelsea had to play. He has the qualities. ‘He can also certainly help Morata and allow him to take a breather during games. ‘I think he can be successful at Chelsea.’
It will certanly be exciting to watch Giroud play for the blues and hopefully he can do great things with them.
Here are the two new Chelsea players supporting the
blues. They signed the Brazilian-Italian player
Emerson Palmieri also this week.
