David Moyes was born on 25th of April 1963. He is a former football player and the current manager of London side West Ham United.
David is the son of David Moyes Sr. and and Joan Moyes. He has Scottish origin but is born and brought up in Bearsden UK.
He played as a centre back for a number of clubs throughout his career which lasted for nearly 20 years. He signed with Celtic FC in 1980, making it his first professional contract. He played 24 games in three years with The Celts and winning a championship medal. Moyes spent the most time in his career at Preston North End, playing 143 games from 1993-1998. He later managed the club.
While playing at Cambridge United David Moyes got abused by a fellow team-mate Roy McDonough for his religious beliefs, Moyes is a Christian and McDonough felt that is Christian-religiousness was distracting him so he wasn´t focused enough at the game. They were playing Wigan in a relegation scrap, the game ended 3-3 and McDonough stated that he “battered“ Moyes, then 20, for not putting enough effort in the game.
David Moyes started his coaching career in 1987 when he was playing for Shrewsbury Town. He coached a private school named Concord College as a way to supplement his wages.
Moyes had been taking managerial badges since he was 22 years old and had been preparing himself for becoming a manager and that became a reality when he became the manager at Preston. In the 1998-98 season, Preston got to the Division Two Play-offs but were beaten by Gillingham in the semi-final. The following season, Preston gained automatic promotion up to Division One after winning the league and what was even greater for Moyes and his team was when he steered Preston to the Division One play-offs but they lost 3-0 in the final against Big Sam´s team, Bolton.
On 14 March 2002, Moyes signed with the blue team in Merseyside, Everton. In his first press conference with Everton, he stated that Everton was ´The People´s club´ on Merseyside. Moyes spent 11 years managing Everton with decent sucess and gained massive respect from Everton supporters. In those 11 years as a manager he has won Manager of the Monts on ten occasions and has been named LMA Manager of the Year three times.
When David was in charge of Everton, his biggest factor was that he was very consistent and got a top 10 finish nine times in 11 years. Everton reached Europan Qualification four times on a five year period with their best finish losing in a penalty shoot-out against Italian side, Fiorentina. Moyes was amazing with Everton and following Sir Alex Ferguson´s retirement, Moyes was announced as his successor.
Moyes wasn´t as good at Old Traffor as he was at Goodison Park and even though he won the Community Shield against Wigan, he was sacked after just 10 months in charge even though he´d signed a 6-year contract with the Red Devils. United were in seventh place, 13 points behind Arsenal in fourth when Moyes got sacked.
After his dreadful stay in Manchester, he was hoping to get back on track and in his previous form but that didn´t happen. 10 November 2014, Moyes was announced as the new manager of Real Sociedad but 364 days later he was sacked. David took a break from coaching after being sacked. In july 2016, he was announced as the new manager at Sunderland and his success wasn´t as good as people hoped for, he got The Black Cats relegated for the first time in ten years and Moyes resigned.
In November 2017, after Slaven Bilic had been sacked from West Ham United, they decided to give David Moyes another chance in the Premier League and so far he´s been decent.
