Brighton and Hove Albion was formed in 1901. The club is based in the city of Brighton and Hove, East Sussex. In 1920 the club was elected to the third division of English football after they’d been competing in the southern league. In the southern league they won their only national honour to date, the Charity Shield as they beat Aston Villa in the final in 1910.
Their nickname is the Seagulls. It was invented on Christmas Eve in 1975 by supporters in a West street pub as a response for Crystal Palace chant ‘Eagles, Eagles!’ the chant ‘Seagulls, Seagulls!” caught in immediately.
Brighton played at the Goldstone ground for many years until the board of directors decided to sell the stadium in 1997. The club received very little money from the sale and fans were furious and provoked widespread protest against the board. After the sale, they were forced to play their home games at Gillingham, which was some 70 miles away from their former ground.

In 1996-97, their last season at the Goldstone, Brighton we’re in danger of getting relegated from the football league. Their second to last match of the season was against Doncaster Rovers which they won, leaving a relegation battle against Hereford United that ended 1-1 and Hereford were sent down to the Football Conference on goals scored.
The Seagulls have always played in a white and blue shirts, usually striped, with different combinations of white and blue, except in the 1970s where they played in all white and again in 1980s where they played in all blue. Nike has manufactured the kit since 2014. Other companies that have manufactured the kit include Adidas, Umbro, Erreà and many more.
The season 2017-18 is their first season playing among the elite since the Premier League was formed back in 1992. They have played in the highest tier of English football but that was way back in 1979. Brighton was promoted to the first division as it was then known. They lasted four seasons and made the FA cup final once which ended in a 2-2 draw against Manchester United. In 1983, they got relegated from the top tier and didn’t return until the 2017-18 season. In 2017 they gained automatic promotion from the championship after they finished second in the league.
The manager, Chris Haughton, has been at the club since 2014. The Irishman has had decent success as the manager of the Seagulls. He had a long playing career as he played at clubs such as West Ham and Brentford. He spent most of his career at Tottenham Hotspur, playing and coaching. He spent 14 years coaching at Tottenham before being dismissed in 2007. He took over Newcastle United in 2009 and gained promotion with the club but got sacked after just about a year in charge. Other teams he has managed include Norwich City and Birmingham City which he had decent success with. In New Year’s Eve in 2014 he was appointed Sami Hyyppia’s successor at Brighton.

Nations Cup where he finished fourth representing Britain. He has been the chairman since 2009 and since then the club has been in the playoffs twice and on the verge of promoting to the Premier League. They then gained automatic promotion last season.

Their squad consists of a good mixture of players with an old Glenn Murray leading the front line. Their star player and star signing this season has been Pascal Groß who has been very good this season after his transfer in the summer from FC Ingolstadt 04 in Germany. They have a lot of good players in their team with a few young players with good potential. You could say that Chris Haughton has done an amazing job and deserves all the credit he gets.
